Win A Case of Wine

by The Content Team on June 23, 2009

in Competitions

I thought it would be a good idea to have some fun and give away some wine at the same time. The prize will be a mixed case delivered direct to your door. Obviously this competition is only open to over 18s and my decision is final :) I should add that it’s also UK only so I can actually get something shipped to you.

There are two ways to enter and you are welcome to enter using both to double your chances.

  1. Comment Entry: Leave a comment on this post to let me know your favourite bottle of wine – doesn’t have to be long and wordy but just what you like and why. Red wines on this post and White wines over here
  2. Twitter Entry: Follow us @whiteandred then Tweet this post so you can share it with your twitter followers

Either way is good with me but if you do both then it’s even better for you :) Option 1 seems better too as I’d like to hear more about what people like.

Closing date is the end of July and then I’ll get in touch with the lucky winner and get some wine sent to you.

I prefer either and Australian Chiraz or a Chilean Merlot myself

Johnnie Walker June 23, 2009 at 11:59 am

A nicely aged Alexe Corton 1er Cru – I’ve got quite a taste for Burgundy since spending my honeymoon near there!

Dan June 23, 2009 at 12:02 pm

The better half and I love Hardys VR Cabernet Sauvignon, preferably by the box. :-)

Chris June 23, 2009 at 12:07 pm

Just trying to find a supplier of “Beni di Batasiolo Barbaresco”. A fantastic Red (and I’m not a big wine fan), which I stumbled across in Italy whilst skiing last year. Sadly there only seems to be supplier in the UK and it’s not cheap :(

Andy Hayes June 23, 2009 at 12:11 pm

Anything Châteauneuf du pape would suit me just fine. :-)

tripledub June 23, 2009 at 12:12 pm

I love Laithwaite’s Rioja’s – current fave is Pagos de Tahola 1999 Reserva

brendan strong June 23, 2009 at 12:17 pm

I’m not very knowledgable about wines, but enjoy a Multipulciano D’Abruzzo (sp?). I’ve found this surprisingly refreshing when chilled (someone’s going to complain about that – but I learned the trick from an Italian – and you would be surprised, it IS quite refreshing chilled), but also a great all-rounder when eating.

Fraser Edwards June 23, 2009 at 12:23 pm

Thanks for all the entries so far – great to see the different tastes! No one prefers white then? :)

Brendan – funny you should mention that as I just enjoyed a chilled red wine last week. Brown Brothers Tarrango http://www.brownbrothers.com.au/ourwine/product.aspx?vintageid=998

That delicious French Shiraz that should cost £100 per bottle that I find at my local supermarket for £3.99 per bottle

But seriously, a good Montalcino or Montepulciano.

Damon Oldcorn June 23, 2009 at 1:14 pm

Chateau Musar from the Lebanon by Gaston Hochar, powerful, rich, spicy red. I was introduced to this by Sergio the owner of the Chateaubriand restaurant in Belsize Park in the early 80s, he had a car hooter that he honked when you came through the door and 2 classic waiters working for him in the Fawlty Towers mould. He was continually having to sweep in and save the day as they made minor errors – all added to the fun of the place and the food was excellent. A real atmosphere and he dusted off an old bottle of the Musar one evening and I was hooked. £3.99 in those days at the supermarket and now still only £9.99 great value.

Big beefy Australian Reds… Wolf Blass Black Label for very special occasions and the alternative coloured Wolfies for any other time. Majestic have them in yellow for £4.99 each I see….

Also really like a raw Tempranillo that bites back a bit.

Better still any wine drunk in its country of origin.

My suggestion for something not too pricey is the dr. Zenzen Vino Noire Dornfelder from Rheinhessen. It’s a light tasting hybrid red wine which is currently one of the best selling German red wines in Western Canada. The 2006 year got me hooked.

Tracy Newton July 1, 2009 at 11:48 am

Just stumbled across this site it looks great.

Maya July 1, 2009 at 5:25 pm

I love Californian Blossom Hill because it’s not too heavy and it seems to go with a lot of food.

Lucy July 2, 2009 at 12:20 pm

I like a nice fruity chenin blanc or a full bodied shiraz depending on my mood and whats for dinner.

Lora July 2, 2009 at 10:23 pm

Someone above mentioned Hardys VR Cabernet Sauvignon, my choice would be the Merlot, just discovered it and it was lovely, not pricey either.

Martin Best July 2, 2009 at 10:28 pm

Have always loved a good Pomerol – incredible smoothness

angela July 2, 2009 at 10:39 pm

Try ‘Marktree’. Not sure what is is but it seems often to be a house wine in restaurants and is consistently pleasant and reasonably priced at about £4.

David McCready July 2, 2009 at 11:30 pm

I usually enjoy a nice Cabernet Merlot

Anne July 3, 2009 at 6:18 am

Henschke Hill of Grace – only 2 bottles of this wonderful wine have ever come my way, but I live in hope!

David Sweet July 3, 2009 at 6:29 am

Châteauneuf du pape as a rare treat

Alison Smith July 3, 2009 at 7:36 am

I love Marques de Caceres, a Rioja. The reserva is gorgeous but more expensive

Hannah Swift July 3, 2009 at 9:30 am

cheap and cheerful – white zinfandel by ernest gallio think it is! mmmmn

Rob Woodhouse July 3, 2009 at 10:41 am

I love Wolf Blass because it was the first vineyard I visited when in Australia, now when I drink it or even see it in the shops it makes me feel warm and happy!!

cat July 3, 2009 at 11:35 am

I love a nice glass of Chardonney or Shiraz after a long day at work!!!!

Cat Palmer July 3, 2009 at 12:48 pm

I have several favourites (!) but I think I would have to pick Bardolino – it’s a light red from Northern Italy, served slightly chilled, and reminds me of Italian holidays. Sadly, it’s not easy to find in this country – I think the Italians keep it for themselves (I certainly would in their place!).

Mark Doherty July 3, 2009 at 2:25 pm

Montepulciano from Aldi, cheap, cheerful & fruity

Lee Bradshaw July 3, 2009 at 3:04 pm

Great prize!

Wolf Blass Cab Sauv Yellow Label for me, although I am partial to the Montepulciano too that seems quite a favourite on here.

Kayleigh Chapman July 3, 2009 at 5:39 pm

Another cheep and cheerful winner – I love Ernest and Julio’s White Grenache! I know it’s not white or red but it’s beautiful on a sunny day like today, and goes especially well with fresh strawberries. Very wimbledon :)

Mel July 3, 2009 at 8:20 pm

For a red wine (if it’s not a Rioja!) I enjoy burgundy – Nuit Saint Georges is a favourite

sam newbywright July 4, 2009 at 3:43 pm

Australian Shiraz or a Wolf bass or Hardys VR Cabernet Sauvignon but I could be persuaded to drink most things

Sam July 4, 2009 at 4:36 pm

I’ve never had wine. But there’s no better way to try something new, than to do it for free. (I am of legal drinking age… and then some)

Katie Russell July 4, 2009 at 5:39 pm

A classic Shiraz type of Merlot

Katie

I am a red wine convert after tasting a Chateauneuf du Pape. Any type is good for me.

Gareth Earls July 5, 2009 at 6:47 pm

I love Chilean Reds. At the moment Casillero del Diablo Cabernet Sauvignon is probably my favourite. Really big flavours and great for summer BBQs.

Christine Norton July 11, 2009 at 10:17 pm

My other half drinks big flavoured red wine,
i drink white usually chardonnay, so We always have a bottle all to our selves!

Emma Reid July 15, 2009 at 8:01 pm

I love a glass/bottle of Jacobs Creek Sparkling Rose
Goes well on a lovely Summer Sunday Afternoon..

And when the kids go to bed… lovely to unwind with x

Lucy Taylor July 21, 2009 at 11:12 pm

Tesco’s Montepulciano is one of my favourites. Light and fruity enough to enjoy on it’s own or goes lovely with pasta and other Italian dishes. Best of all, it’s under £3.50 making it the ideal credit-crunch party wine!!

sue Norminton July 26, 2009 at 9:04 pm

cote de rhone village

Simon Richardson July 28, 2009 at 3:06 pm

I lived in Spain for 5 years and now I find it very difficult to drink anything apart from Spanish Wine. I say that, the “new world” stuff can be good too – just can’t taste French red, I guess is what I’m saying.

While in Spain, I tasted lots of good wines, but for the money I don’t think you can beat a bottle of El Coto. The problem is, I can’t find it anywhere here in the UK although it was sold widely through the supermarkets in Spain. It’s got a really rich flavour and flies down with no after taste.

Anyway, if you can find this stuff, put me down for a crate ;-)

Phil Matthews July 28, 2009 at 3:43 pm

I love a glass of Pesquera – a red wine from Spain. I heard it was a favourite of Sir Alex Ferguson which was a good enough excuse to try it. Only for very special occasions though!

Mark July 30, 2009 at 3:11 pm

Lindemans BIN 50 goes down well with me.

cecelia allen July 30, 2009 at 5:13 pm

Gallio’s White Zinfandel takes some beating for me

Nicky Stevens July 30, 2009 at 5:28 pm

Oooooh definitely a decent Rioja for me – yum, is it wine time yet?

laura crilly July 30, 2009 at 9:56 pm

My favourite red wine variety is a Pinot Noir, preferably a New Zealand wine like Felton Road. Very decedant

Mark Pentleton July 31, 2009 at 1:50 pm

Best bottle of red wine I’ve had recently was a Vilosell Costers del Segre. Different, but absolutely delicious!

Philip Acton July 31, 2009 at 1:56 pm

love a good Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon, Aussie Shiraz or something Spanish- Marques de Caceres or a nice Ribera del duero. basically anything, in a brown bag, on a park bench

Brian H July 31, 2009 at 1:58 pm

Not the most expensive wines, but I’m partial to a nice Chilean Carmenere. In fact, I will choose a Chilean red over wines produced elsewhere.

And now I’m in the mood for a glass! :)

Graham Keen July 31, 2009 at 1:58 pm

Nothing beats a good chilled Chablis. Bliss.

James July 31, 2009 at 2:01 pm

Co-op Australian Lime Tree Chardonnay – Straight from the chiller and downed, from the bottle – (wine glasses?!) gives one the foundation needed for a cracking night out! Goes particularly well with snakebite and kebab, and suprisingly is not overly detectable the next morning. At £3.99 a bottle, you can’t go wrong*!

* Only applies to students, the more well-heeled homeless and Bruce Jones (of Coronation Street fame)

BFG 9000 July 31, 2009 at 2:02 pm

I’m a big fan of a decent Pinot Noir for its incredibly silky and ‘cherry’ character, and it’s easily quaffable during the hotter months. :)

Colin Asquith July 31, 2009 at 3:11 pm

My favourite is a Heartlands Dolcetto… so nice. I actually used to dislike red wine, then tasted some and it basically turned my wine love on its head, now I love most reds, and few whites.

Laura Bernstone July 31, 2009 at 11:14 pm

I love Hardy’s Stamp Merlot, perfect with pizza and pasta!
